heres my scenario. if i were to buy a car that is a 98, but the engine is a jdm 96. would i have to bring it to the state ref. if i do it wouldnt pass i know that. but since im buying it from a private owner in CA, and i live in CA also, would i have to just smog it or still take it to the ref. if i just smog it, thats fine by me, but state ref, im screwed.
