Default rockford

hey i got a 500 watt rockford a2(the old style) and its pushing 1 10" L& dual 2 ohm and i have it wired parallel (pos to pos / neg to neg) and then i have it bridged on the amp so its getting a full 500 watts. Its in a sealed box. My prob is the amp gets REALLY REALLY hot. even after like 5 mins of usage. Is it cause i have it running at 1 ohm? should i wire it in series? please help

I think those old Fosgate amps don't really do that well at 1 ohm. In other words , yes that's your problem. 2 ohm might work ok. There's only a handful of amps that run at 1 ohm or 1/2 ohm really well. http://www.usamps.com (open the 2001 product manual and scroll down) has some good technical papers to figure out what ohm load you should run according to the specs on your amp (rail voltage etc.). If you can find good specs for your amp you can do the math.

Does your amp's thermal protection kick in and shut the sound off? I put a cooling fan blowing on my amp because it shuts down. I'm gonna replace it soon though. It runs at 2 ohms.
