Default Help needed with strange problem!

Hi All,

I'm having a problem with the fuel gauge in my EK Civic Coupe.
I've noticed that when I have the headlights on for about 15 mins, the fuel gauge rises up as if the tank is full to the brim! This does not happen during the day (as the lights are off), so It has to be something to do with the lighting system when it heats up. The gauge will then return to it's correct position after the car has been parked up for an hour or so!

Anyone throw any light (pardon the pun) on this?

Any help much appreciated!

first try pulling the cover off your dash pod and checking all the wires to make sure they're hooked up right and nothing is broken or touching. Check all your grounds in the engine comparment. Maybe even have your alt. tested to make sure its working properly. If this doesn't work than I'd pay a honda dealship 75 bucks to find it for me.

thats effin weird, man. the fuel level signal wire is getting 12V put to it somewhere (obviously a headlight/parking light wire), and reading full. (the level signal goes from like 1V to 12V). does it do it when the parking lights are on? or just the heads?
edit- and did you say it only does it when the car warms up? now thats weird..... i'll think about this one, i can't think of a circuit that gets 12V when the car warms up and the lights are on, they're totally separate systems.....

Thanks for the replys - much appreciated

It's very strange!
The only other thing that I can think of is that just before this started to happen, the temp gauge went into the red as I was driving. I changed the thermostat and replaced the coolant and it fixed the problem. I don't know if this is linked but it never happened before the thermostat failed?

Any ideas?
Cheers!

Ok this has gone on for a while now!
This now happens anytime the engine heats up - the lights don't have to be on but it will happen quicker if they are! Would a bad ground make this happen?
Where's the best place to start looking?

Thks.
