Default Door Poppers?

I'm thinking about getting my doorhandles shaved and adding door poppers. Is there any reason I should avoid this?
This is my current fun plan:
Shave door handles
paint car black
put in underglow(not illegal IIRC)

Would this look ridiculously stupid or is it really a stupid idea?

I have a 2nd gen integra ls

Personally shaving door handles isnt my thing, but I suggest getting a good kit. Dont buy a cheap kit, with cheap selenoid poppers. Go AutoLoc, get the best selenoids that can withstand a lot of weight/pressure

Just a quick throw out question:
Am I running the risk of it malfunctioning a lot and getting myself locked out of my car? Also, what kind of money am I looking at if I want them to do a good job. And thirdly, is this something I can do myself or should I take it to a specialist?

Money, IDK, the door will have to be repainted, and the work, Im not sure how long it will take. Getting locked out, theres always the trunk. Definatly take it to a specialist. The solenoid just barely pushes the door open, so I can stick my finger in the weather sealer and pull it open. Also remember if your track is stiff on rules they will not let you run.

spoke to a professional who has worked for ALOT of the companies preppin cars for the SEMA show everyyear doing custom speaker enclosures and door popper kits, and he specifically said that alot of the poppers have gone bad in cars cuz they is so little quality control as they try and push out mass quantity and as a result quality suffers. As for the idea of shavin ur door handles regarless of whether u get a popper or go wit some other method, remember not to leave ur lights on or stereo on, cuz some dumbass did that once and had to break his window to get back in his car! hahahah..

well, a solenoid is a pretty simple device. essentially a magnetic coil and a cylindrical piece that allows it to keep the door closed. same theory as a door bell. how it allows you "pop" the door out is beyond me. but as pdcdragon warns, do a lot more research decide on your parts carefully.

also, if ur battery dies, u're outta luck too.

the solenoid is simply used for physically pullin the door latch from inside the door panel so the "hook" in the door is no longer hooked onto the metal ring in the door frame. The popper is like a spring loaded electronically controlled unit that physcially pushed the door out for you. So the solenoid unlucks it so you can open the door but you'd have to stick ur fingers in the doorjam to open it with out the door poppers sometimes. Wit the poppers, they should pop out the door as the solenoid unlocks the door for ya. get it? Dat is my understandin of the whole thing as observed at the shop and from description of the guy i was talkin to ....

Would it be smart to leave the key entry for the trunk intact so I have a way to get in without the remote and IF the thing dies off? As for poppers. How far does it pop exactly? Does it pop completely open or does it just pop so you can grab it easily?

how far it pops depends on what kind of poppers u get.. and where on the door frame u have them installed.

Without the poppers, is there still a risk of something going wrong or is it a lot less likely to get jammed? any setbacks from just getting the solenoids? It would be a lot cheaper right?

its illegal.. if you guys didnt kno.. if you insurance was to find that out you shaved your door handles and you was to ge tinto a car accident and die bcuz of that.. they drop there liability to pay.. but.. why shave it off? just stick the rear handles from the back so you will lose the key hole instead...my opinion

another option to shaving door handles is to see if the rear door handles of a 90-93 Integra 4dr fit because it works for the 94-01.

EDIT: reason is because the rear door handles have no key holes for the 94-01, but not sure about teh 90-93 Integras
