Need opinions on a CRAZY engine swap
Ok, I found a place that sells 3S-GTE engines from the turbo MR2 for about $1k. I was thinking that since the engine is set up just like our engines, then with a little fabricating, I might be able to put one in a Civic or CRX. What does everyone think of this idea.
i dont think its worth it. too much money for custom fab'ing to have the engine in there and running right. just think about all that wiring your going to have to do to have it match up. but thats just my 2 cents
Well, I'll be using the MR2 tranny, and I really don't see the wiring being that big of a problem. Yeah it'll would be a little bit of a pain in the *** to install it, and if it was that big of a problem then I could always get a stand alone. When I think about it, the main problems I would have is getting motor mounts, exhaust piping, and figuring out how to get the drive wheels to bolt up right.
Yeah a 3SGTE is WAY more capable than any B series engine. JGTCC supra's swapped out the 2JZ in favor of the 3SGTE, as it allows for larger turbos, radiators, intercoolers, etc, and is more than capable of over 700hp. But I digress, If you are thinkin' hey these are cheap I'll just slap on then, Umm you got a whole lotta headache coming your way. EVERYTHING will have to be custom. Not worth it IMO. It says in your sig you have an MR2, Mod that thing with a 3SGTE, and use a B series for your honda.
See, that's the thing, if I put the 3S-GTE into a Civic or CRX, then I won't have to worry about cosmetics. Where as, my MR2 needs a new front bumer, since alot of the clips on it are broken and it also needs a new paint job. So, by the time I spent the money on swapping the engine into my MR2 and got it looking nice, I could have swapped it into a Civic or CRX that I would buy without an engine for a couple hundred dollars. So reguardless, I'm going to end up spending around the same amount of money. The way I look at it, why not be very different and put the engine in a Honda?

just spend the damn money and build up the MR2...
That is the best option for you IMO.
keep the civic as the "every day beater".

my hat off to you for considering this swap. However my only suggestion is to really consider exactly what its going to take to make this work, its going to take 100% custom fabrication, go through everything that it would possibly take then remember that more than 75% of most of the expenses are gona come from small dumb things that are gona pop up.
Bad idea. First of all, for the money you would have to spend to get it right, you could drop in a fully built Dart B18 that would handle 900 hp or more.
There are too many thing you would have to fabricate from scratch to make this work.

1. You can't use 900Hp on the street.
2. It is not NHRA legal
3. A GE sleeved block can handle pretty much anything and is WAY cheeper
so.....WHY HAVE IT?
IMO Honda should stay honda. Hondas have been beating all the other cars out there with the motors that come in them. Hondas don't use huge displacement or lots of turbo to beat other cars, we use technology and finese. If we decide to go turbo, we kill even harder. In my state of HI i saw a rex with a wide body conversion and FORD FOCUS LIGHTS IN THE BACK!!!! I was kind of sick, it wasn't that ugly, but i just didn't like it. I appreciate the effort he put in, but up to you and your wallet. just my 2 cents. peace.
you'll need custom axles made, you'll need a custom mount kit made, and you'll have to re-wire the car to think its an MR2, MR2 computer, blah, blah, blah exhaust is nothing, i think the wiring would just be a nightmare, but cool idea. if you've got the patience, time, and money, go for it! i would love to see it, just do a clean-*** install.
