New Kenwood deck installed worked fine... now no sound..help?
Just installed a brand new Kenwood KDC-5019 into a Mitsubishi Mirage and for a few days the thing worked perfect. Now here it is a few days later and there is no sound. The player starts up and acts like it is fine, runs like it is playing a cd or tunes to a radio station. However.....there is no sound.
Any troubleshooting tips would be appreciated. Anyone run into this problem before? I hope it is a quick fix cause now I am a little worried.

Is it muted? Sounds like a dumb question, but you never know.
If it has preamp outputs you may want to check to see if they have output. Hooking a DMM will tell you if there is voltage if no amp, or converter for headphones is available.

If it's not muted like said above, then make sure when u made the connections in the back that u didn't ground out any of the speaker wires coming out of the headunit. I am assuming u used a radio harness, so check ur harness and test the wires, one grounded out wire will cause all ur speakers to cut completely.
this may sound a little stupid but what do you mean by "ground out?" Is that when exposed speaker wire touches grounded metal? I soldered all the harness connections, and wrapped with electrical tape. Maybe I should do it again and wrap with heat shrink (how I usually do it). None was available.
Can I test to see if the deck is outputing to the harness by hooking a speaker up to the output speaker wires that run straight out of the deck?

Everything is connected perfectly. The speaker wires are all soldered and heat shrink wrapped. All the joints are perfect.
The ground coming from the stereo wiring harness doesnt seem to attach to anything in the adapter wiring harness.... I connected it to a bolt on the frame, so I checked that, and the deck seems to function even when the ground isnt attached. Could this be something to worry about.
I can't seem to figure out why it worked for awhile and now there is no sound. Nothing I seem to do works.
Please help!
Brian
