Default Garage door opener switch

I'd like to wire up my garage door opener to work with just a switch, so I can have the ugly garage opener hidden and just use the switch.

I'm terrible with electronics...so if anyone know's how to do this, that would be great. I'm thinking just take apart the opener and find which wires touch when the button is pressed and then wire them to the switch. Seems pretty straight forward, but there might be something that I'm missing, so I thought I'd check here first.

Thanks

Chances are the switch will be soldered to a circuit board inside so you may need to have a good soldering gun and desoldering pump which can be picked up from radio shack. Should be pretty easy to do though. If you can handle it Ill do it for you.

I think it'd be cool to get a momentary swith from ratty 'ol shak or someplade and mount it in the dash someplace. They have some cool looking switches for a couple of dollah. Also those type of switches accomodate being mounted in a small hole.

Hey that's a pretty cool idea with the highlight garage opener. Do you think that would put any extra stresses on the circuits of the opener....if you were driving a long distance with the highlights on?

Hehe, that would be kinda cool too, just to drive around a neighborhood with your highbeams on and see if any garages open.
