Default engine coolant temp sensor code please help!!!

ok so heres the deal...

im doing a swap for a friend in his ef i built a usdm obd2 type R block an SIR1 head and wiring but the type R block doesnt have the port in the rear of the block for the engine coolant temp sensor like the SIR1 block that we swaped did so I start the motor without the sensor in and guess what check engine light for ect sensor so i get a newer B series thermostat housing with the ect port in it and i
rewire the ect sensor to the thermostat housing , unplug the neg battery cable and unplug the ecu to clear the codes then i start the motor and get the code again???
ive double checked the wiring and ive installed a different sensor and still i get the code i dont get it is there some other way to clear the memory codes in the ecu?
please help I would really like to get this thing done allready

thanks for any help...

also will this check engine light for the engine temp sensor disable VTEC??? because that was working before and not any more???

having that sensor unhooked or not working, will disable vtec and it might give you a lower fuel cut(6700 or so)!
