Default Location of Kill Switches

I know the rule of not telling anyone where to locate your kill switches, but i've heard and seen some outlandish locations. My question is, should'nt i install them in the passenger compartment somewhere? I am talking about starter kill switches, fuel kill, ignition kill, etc.

If somebody is scoping out your car and seeing that everytime time you get out of it you go to the trunk or pop the hood to do something it would be pretty obvious. So yes it should be in the passenger comp. The trick is to put it in an obvious stock location for a switch. Like connecting it to the ac switch if your car dosent have ac. This link might help. if you do a search you will find a lot more info

i was thinking of putting it in the ashtray between the seats that faces the rear.

rear ashtray is still too obvious. i took a screw that matched a current screw located somewhere inside my car. i cut off the head and attached it to a push button switch. after i wired everything up, i put my "fake" screw back in the stock location. The screw looks like it belongs there but in reality, it's my kill switch.

sounds trick, ponch. got a pic by any chance?

the idea of a kill switch is to be seamless. It can't look like youre doing anything unusual before you start your car, ie open the glove box etc...

no pics. if i had one, then you'd know the location of the switch. sorry man. another thing is my cousin had his kill stich placed inside his casette deck of the stereo. he always uses the CD player so he installed a small (i mean small!!) switch inside that he flicks back on and off. he said it was a real pain in the rear but it was worth it. if his stereo ever gets stolen, then there goes his switch too. it's just one more idea i thought i would throw out there.

I doubt people are staking out your car and watching how you get out to see if you flick a kill switch or something...if they are, you are going to lose that car anyway.

Cool ideas though.

forget about the actual location of the switch, how are you going to wire it in the most inconspicious manner???? being a mobile installer, it is very easy to bypass these switches by checking underneathe your dash...my advice is to focus more on hiding the wiring such as killing the starter/ignition/fuel pump behind the fuse box, route it all the way through the gauges and back down. wiring location and making it obvious is the common downfall of alarms and such.. good luck!!!

Most stock alarms do starter/ignition kill. Which are easliy bypassed.

I would recommend checking out the fuel pump kill article on http://www.team-integra.net.

You wire a switch from your fuel pump in the back of your car. Do not wire it around the dash where all the ignition wires are. This makes sense if you think about it. Run the wire directly from your switch to your fuel pump, then the other wire from the fuel pump to the switch to complete the circuit. This will work very well if your switch is not found.

They can always tow the car though.

if your a non smoker, try using your cigerette lighter,if you cut the wires off the back and wire them to the starter (make it look stock),the the car will only start if you push in your lighter.plus you can just take your lighter with you,its right in a thiefs face but he would have no clue,it would just look like a cigerrete lighter, and how many theives carry a cigerette lighter with them?

Get creative and use multiple switches and relays. I like civictypenos's idea about the cig. lighter, in addition, I would link the cruise control switch and a plain-view toggle or button switch. The whole sequence would be linked by relays. The theif will think he's won by flipping the plain-view switch but without the cig. lighter and knowledge of the cruise-control switch, the fuel pump will still be cut off.

Absolutely!! You can't see my wires from underneath the dash though. I wired them way up. Also, for my other kill switch, i have the wires running inside the A/C ducts in the car. You can't tell. What i need is a hood lock but no one around this place carries it or knows what i;m talking about. Anybody got a good brand name of one or how the lock works?

There are 2 types that I've seen over the years. The first is a manual one and incorporates a cable, key-lock mechanism and a starter-kill relay (optional). The cable is run from the interior to the hood release at the front of the car. The key-lock mechanism is usually installed in the interior underneath the dash (can also be hidden for more security). The cable attaches to the hood release and locks it in place as long as the lock mechanism on the other end is locked with the key. DEI makes two units, the 565T and 567T. I'm not sure what, if any, the differences are but any DEI dealer can order one for you.

The second unit I've seen is electronic. This unit also uses a cable but it's attached directly to the hood. The cable is coiled inside a housing that is mounted at an appropriate location in the engine compartment. When the lock is engaged, the cable stays coiled and the hood will not open. The lock is typically triggered by a hidden switch or interfaced with an alarm. This unit was made by Winner International - the makers of the ever popular "THE CLUB." I'm not sure if it's available these days.

Excellent idea.
Another good location is on the drivers seat itself. A micro-switch can be installed just under the seat back adjustment lever. These switches are very small and hard to see. No-one would think twice about someone using their hand on the seat to shift their weight when they sit down, or using their hand to help themselves up when they get out. If you hook this up as a fuel kill it is also good if you get car jacked. Hit the switch on your way out and the car will die a few seconds later. When it dies the thief will most likely take off and leave the car.

Just remember to use quality parts and solder your connections. Last thing you want is to have something fail at the wrong time.

I gotta ask this so excuse my ignorance. if connecting a kill switch to my fuel pump. i heard that when the theif steals the car, the fuel runs out.....okay. i hear this gives the same damaging effect to your engine as if you drove out of gas driving down the road...here's my ignorance, what IS the damage people talk about?? I realize this is probably better than having your ride gone, but i am curious what they mean. Thanks.

running your car lean is very damaging,it likes to melt things.if you have a kill switch on your fuel pump and it runs out while driving ,i doubt you do any damage at all,it cuts fuel and your engine ,before any damage is done.
