big boost. MSD 6al or go 7 series
I am at the point now where im getting the ignition done. i currently have a ^al and a Blaster 2 coil with a seperate 2 stepper. I am considering selling it and getting a 7AL-2 or 3. Is it really worth it or an i gonna see any power increase or reliability. I plan to run 26-30 psi and up to around 9500 or so. My current stuff is like new and works fine but i never put this much stress on the ignition. So should i go with the 7 series or stick with what i got
I never even considered the digital ones. I was always under the inpression that they were for distributorless ignitions. I might jsut get that one. Once again Viren you hook me up.
If it were me, id stay with the regualr 6al. It is plenty fine for 500hp 30 pounds of boost cars. Like you said, its in like new condition and you have never had a problem.

You guys offer good advice but im jsut tentative to staying with it. I called MSD and they recommended hands down that i go to the 7 series. I should have no problem going over 500 hp and i just dont want to hold myslef back for a measly 300 bucks.

the 6al is fine for street car drivers, but when you have a full blown race car you cant afford to have questionable ignition system. 7al is the correct choice! 300 bucks thats nothing when you have 35,000 invested
supposedly the 6 digital produces just as much ignition power as the 7al. i don't really see many people using a 7al on their street car. Harv used to tell me that a 6al was only good up to 400 whp, a lot of people here would refute that.
yea i dont see why the 6 wont hold. i have the digial 6+, i ahvent really seen th e 7 used yet its on the newerside, i think MSD is trying to get mroe money hehehe
I used a 6al on my crx, just gapped the plugs tight, on the new car we have a 7al, it goes down the street just fine... you need the right coil for street driving, if you use the pro power coil it will probaly burn up going down the highway not good for long duration. Jason
Here it is in a nut shell, if you have a street car (not a race car) that gets driven for several miles day to day the 6al is the ticket, I have one on my street car and it is fantastic. The spark signal in the 6al is not nearly as hot as the 7al and will not take a toll on your plugs and the rest of your ignition system. One the other hand the 7al is for race applications, it allows you to run a stronger coil and gives a hotter spark signal for complete burn on high compression or high boosted applications, I have a 7al in my drag car and that is where it belongs in a race car not a street beater. So if you have a street car get a 6al if you have a drag car get a 7al.
The biggest thing I see here is that you said you were gonna rev it to 9500....if you read up on the 6al, you will see that it is not gonna provide much more spark than the stock ignition beyond 7500-8000....so I see that the 6al is not sufficient in your case....I highly recommend the Digital 6+....it will provide the ultimate spark that you will need at a decent price...also it has a 2step built into it
Digital=Better quality hands down!!!
Dont **** with the 7 series unless you intend to use it for drag racing..
