Turbo Plans Delayed!
Ran my compression tests today on my 90 ls teg. All was cool....first 3 cylinders were 190....185...and 180....then i get to the last spark plug and it is drenched in oil. I mean, it was hard to get the plug out for all of the oil. Any way i get the plug out and run the test even though i know it is gonna be off... and sure enough 230. Think my rings are leaking? I cant put my turbo on with that cylinder so out of whack. What should I do? I'm on such a low budget. We're talking 6.15 an hour at Blockbuster!
Start with the easy things. Maybe your sparkplug gasket on that cylinder is hosed. Replace it and redo the compression test. When oil gets on the piston your numbers are going to be high on that cylinder.
Im almost 99% sure its your valve cover spark plug gasket thats either not there or needs to be replaced. There's nothing wrong with your compression. Its only higher because of the oil sealing the rings. Your numbers are average for a LS. You should be worried if the numbers are lower than 160 or so, not higher.
