Default suspension of my DL

I live in California and I was involved in an auto accident back in December. My car was totaled and I didn’t report it to the DMV. Recently, the DMV has an order of suspension because I didn’t report it and truthfully I didn’t have liability insurance either so the order declares that I’ll no longer be driving for one full year. I have a few questions about my options.

It was said that I could apply for restrictive license, what is this?

I was also given another option where I’ll have to get a SR-22 insurance (I need to keep it for 4 years) and pay a fine of 310$. But from my understanding, SR-22 is DUI and that’s not the case with me. SR-1 is actually the right form for no proof of financial responsibility. What’s up with that?

Is SR-22 insurance expensive?

Can I simply fabricate “proof of insurance” and submit it? (I can make it seem very authentic) Will they call and verify? I have already paid the other party for the damage I’ve caused so I am not trying to avoid responsibility but to avoid losing driving privilege.

I need your help as I’m not sure what to do at the moment so your advices would be greatly appreciated. (minus the flame)

A restricted license means you can drive to work and for basic necessities, but not for fun or for a date or anything like that. It is not a good thing.

I wouldn't fake insurance. If you get got, they have yet another thing that they will be getting you for which would suck.

Fabricating proof of insurance isn't a good idea. Just think how a judge would look at that if you got caught. It would be really bad.. no driving for like 5 years or jail time.. or maybe both? I dunno, just take what you've got I guess.

your trying to "fake out" the dmv, and you call that not trying to avoid responibility?

check out this link about sr-22 http://www.state.ak.us/local/akpages.../akol/sr22.htm

by the way restricated dl is when you can only drive to work or school or any other place that is neccessary. they make you fill out a form saying where you need to go and then then give you another one to carry in the car at all times during the restriction.

I was refering to paying the other party instead of running away, but you're right, I didn't even notice it.
