Default Hissing Gas Cap!

Do I have a snake in my gas tank?

Seriously though, yesterday when I pulled into my garage and turned off my car (1989 CRX HF w/ DOHC ZC) I heard a whining/hissing noise, it was coming from my gas cap. Not sure if it was sucking in air or leting out air (sucking in I think). I know the gas cap was on as tight as it goes.

Is this a problem?
Do I need a new gas cap?
Is this normal and I never realized it?
Should I just not worry about it?

It isn't a problem...my '98 Celica has done it since it came off the line.

The gas cap is faulty. If you have emissions inspections where you live, the cap gets tested to see if it holds pressure. Yours would fail. No immediate danger or problem right now if you just ignore it.

dont ignore something that is so dirt cheap to replace!

even if its not a "danger"...you never know what Could happen... that is unless you'd like your car to "accidentally" catch on fire.

a leaky gas cap can cause you to lose fuel pressure
