Speedometer problems!
yes i know this has been covered a million times before but i just want to make sure im covering everything....
my speedo started to fluxiuate a few days ago, it would drop to 0 and then come back up to normal, earlier in the day i ran thru a huge body of water, so i figured water had gotten in the VSS sensor. I didnt have time to look at it so i continued to drive it, thenit went completly dead and was that way all yesterday, except for once or twice it would start to read for a few secs. the CEL came on once, i restarted the car and it has not come on since (i have not checked the code but i figure its going to be code 17 for VSS)
today i pulled out the VSS and yes it did have some water and corosion in it, so i cleaned it out and scraped the prongs a little to get rid of the build up, i also pulled out the speed gear and it seems to be fine. I also went around the engine bay and pulled off all of the ground conections and cleaned them up, so with all that being done, it still doesn't work
so with all of this, is my next step to pull the cluster? or is there something else i should check first (i'm not looking forward to pulling the cluster out of my teg dash, i'll probally have to at least loosen up the whole dash to get the cluster out
)
off topic.... i never relised how hard it is to try and gauge your speed with out a speedo
thanks guys

checked all the fuses and all of them are fine, is there anyway i can check the vss using an electrical tester? otherwise it looks like i might be pulling the dash apart tomorow to take a look at the cluster, also are there any grounds under the dash i can check? thanks

You don't have to take apart the dash to get the cluster out, you're making this too difficult on yourself if you take out your dash or take it apart.
sorry if i didn't expain it earlier
