what are some light weight tires(searched)
Sup guys, Im about to buy some new wheels+ tires, and I dont want to dish out so much for light wheels, only to gain the weight back on tires, plus, tires are on the outter rim, at the longest radius from the center which equals more rotational inertia. So any recommendations on tires,
Im basically looking for these qualities:
1. Light weight
2. good dry/wet performance
3. good tread wear
4. good price
any ideas? btw, this is for a daily driver, so I wouldnt mind sacraficing some performance for tread wear (I know the two are inversely proportional )

Most street tires are going to weigh the same +/- a few lbs. Falkens are heavier than most. Add 10mm width, add 2lbs (general rule, from the TireRack rep).
However the grip from a wider or grippier tire will outweigh the weight benefit IMO.
The only really light tires you're going to find is hoosier autocross/road race tires - and these are about as far from street tires as you can get.

I think lightweight wheels + tires together = 5-6pd each tire, thats 10-12 pounds for both front wheels, pretty big difference, considering you can feel a difference when dropping 10pd on a flywheel.

they also suck *** compared to other offerings.
What do you want? Quiet ride? Long treadlife? High performance? Wet traction? What size?

pirelli p7000 sidewalls are very soft, i used to have the tires before and i would not buy them again. toyo t1s are fairly lightweight and aparantly grip well.

Here's my suggestion: Don't spend 300 a wheel for forged 'rimz.'
Ok seriously, It would be really cool if there was a comprehensive database of all tire brands/models/sizes with their weights accurate down to the tenth of a pound.
But there aint.
Somebody make this for me. Now.

If you want lightweight tires buy hoosiers.
Since you're spending $300/wheel on forged "wheels" then i woul guess you are not racing and dont need to worry about "lightweight" tires.

10 pounds on a flywheel spinning at 6000rpm is a HELL of a lot more inertia than the same amount on a wheel spinning at a fraction of that speed. The problem here is that tires are always a compromise: Someone else here said it (or something like it) first...
Long life, good traction, or low cost - pick two.
When you add a fourth quality - low weight - you really have to suck it up on two other factors.

Lots of weights listed here: http://www.cristhomas.com/cars/tires.html
But I agree the benefits of lighter tires are lost if you sacrifice traction to get it.

The showcar carpet doesnt have alot of traction anyways.

Damn the sport conti 2 in 195/45-15 weighs less than 14 pounds?!
I went to continental's website and they have some wierd sizes, like 215/40-14... how do I get some of those to try out?!
