lowered car and snow???
Ok I just put all new tires on my stock wheels this winter. Today was the first time I've actually had the car out in any kind of snow...woke up this morning with a light amount of snow on the ground. Well my friggin traction blows!!!! The tires have an aggressive tread pattern but that seems to mean nothing. My boy has them on his older neon, he has no issues at all.
I'm thinking its because I am lowered.

Get some nice beafy all season tires. Get 'em siped by the tire shop. Makes a world of difference. Any summer tire with a performance tread pattern is going to suck on snow. They're made to hug dry pavement and move water out of the way. Not snow.

Re: lowered car and snow??? (loki2323)
I was told some time back that the lower center of gravity make the car more likely to spin out.... however that might have just been to make me feel better after bouncing my sol off the guard rail of a bridge two winters back, however the snow tires I was using then I still use on my winter beater without having any issues, spinning or traction ....btw the sol sits over 2" low (SKunk2 coil) and the winter honda is stock

Re: lowered car and snow??? (foz)
I have no problem with my 2.25" front and 2.5" rear drop in winter I thought it handle better too!! So far the only problem I have is my fenderwall got frozed with snow/ice and it make loud scrapping noises when driving!! But once I wash it off or weather gets above 25 degrees it went away!!

No big traction problems in the snow really.
Only thing is i constantly hear snow hitting the bottom of my car and my muffler. And i somewhat plow the snow for the cars behind me.
But my mugen rep lip is gone now i have the ex lip. The ex lip sits higher up so not as much problems now.

I have a 5th Gen hatch - 8 months a year I ride on Koni yellows and eibach prokit with Bridgestone S03's - the other 4 months - stock struts and springs with steelies and winter tires - takes about 3 hours to change the car over to winter suspension and back again - makes all of the difference in the world - literally night and day.
I think it not only has to do with tire compound - but suspension compliance as well (stock springs and struts are much softer. Not to mention my winter tires have a slightly narrower (taller) profile than my summer tires... my .02

Re: (vtekthis)
just make sure that you don't have negitive camber greater on one side. my right front wheel has a degree more negative camber than the rest of the car and last year when we had bad ice i curbed my car 2-3 times and messed up my rim. it didn't matter how slow i was driving, its just kept sliding until something stopped it.

generally, the wider the tire is,the worse it performs in the snow-it tends to sit on top of the snow due to the wide contact patch insted of getting pushed down through the snow(especially in a lighter car).with all other things equal,i can tell a huge difference between my 13" stock steelie and 205/50-15's.the 15's seem to just skate across the top of the snow, the 13s do great(and they're just cheapo Wal-Mart all-seasons with only about 10% tread left)

Thats what I was gonna say...this way is so much easier.
195's are about as wide as you'll want to go in the winter time, even then traction can be an issue.

Re: lowered car and snow??? (RangerDan)
it may be from your car being lowered. If your camber is outta wack then your really only using like half your tires.
