Don't buy it not even a peace of mind unless you go through puddles on your way to work.

Nope. Save you money for something else. As stated before, you have to submerge the filter.

The first bypass valve I had for my cold air intake was cracking because whenever you drop a gear and go WOT the jurks the intake, and that caused the sections to that held it intacted to crack. So I bought another bypass valve($45 ) and an extra AEM rubber piece from the shop that I purchased the intake from and put that on instead. So I just put the bypass valve on whenever it rain... sounds like it gets annoying but its not that bad. Takes just about 3-5mins

Yep, good rule of thumb would be being submerged 16 inches of water, or up the the headlight. If you live in a place where theres always a lot of flash floods get it, if not save your cash.

My friend had a bypass valve on his type R and it sucked the plastic into the intake and got it stuck in the TB, luckily he shut the car off and took it off without any major problems, but he never put it back on or suggested getting one to anyone. If that helps you at all...

just thougt i'd mention as well, i bought mine AFTER there was a supposed problem, mine was the updated version that wasn't supposed to have problems..... now, the problem i had was the bypass valve stayed open all the time and let in un-filtered air with little debris particles, causing cylinder wall scarring, and a broken valve

When you put yours in, did you make one cut in your intake or two? Some people only put one cut in the pipe and don't realize that you have to make two cuts. You actually have to take out a whole section of the intake because if you don't you are adding to the design of the intake instead of just modifying it.
Just a thought.
