painting fills in the pores so the block becomes easier to clean, some people use epoxy paints or powder coatings to make it even easier to clean. plus depending on the color it may look good or else fit the origional color its supposed to be (especially older models)

Well, after I cleaned the block and tranny w/ degreaser, it's still a little dirty, old finish. I just want to paint them maybe close to the original color before I put everything back together. The car is total stripped right now, getting some rusts off too. I plan on painting the whole car in and out, engine bay as well before I put everything back together.
