Burning oil, smoke only at idle, valve seals?? worth it to replace? help please!
I recently got a 91 crx si and figured out that it's burning oil. It's pretty bad like it would go from the second dot on the dipstick to the first in like 1.5-2 weeks of everyday driving. I doesnt blow smoke during acceleration or decelleration but it will smoke when it sits at idle for a period of time... then sometimes when it is sitting at idle for awhile you blip the gas pedal it will sometimes smoke clouds.
well after searching for a while on this site i'm thinking it's leaking valve seals. Any other suggestions? BTW it's the stock si motor with i/h/e and i plan to keep it for everyday driving. If it is valve seals is it a difficult fix. You have to take off head and pull out valves?? How much would a shop charge??
Please give me some tips and advice to point me in the right direction, what do you think?

Check your valve cover seals and if any oil is leaking in your spark plugs. Pull the plugs to make sure they arent went with oil. Also check the oil pan seal. Just some other things to check before pulling off the head. Hope you figure it out.

when searching for help i was reading about something like manifold vacuum and when it's at idle it draws in oil... anyone know about this???

if it was oil rings doesnt it blow smoke during acceleration... mine usually only smokes when idleing and at first take off??
There is higher vacume in the intake manifold and runners at idle or decelaration so it is possible your seals are bad and dried out letting oil past them. Also the valve guides themselves could be worn.
is there any way i can check for sure? I thinking for the price to fix that and since i would be taking the head off anyway that i should swap the a6 head for a z6 head. I already have access to a z6 head for cheap... hmmm... what else would i need from the z6? IM, something to wire vtec, etc??
