Default how much does a lightened crank pulley help on a turbo engine?

i was thinking about getting an unorthodox crank pulley for my turbo ls, my friend said its suppose to be like 8hp to the wheels. but i was just wondering if thats true, and if i should spend the extra money or not. i already have an aluminum flywheel too.

Good question, I would like some answers to this question as well. I'm working on a junkyard setup w/ a T3 on a D16Z6. I bought a AEM camgear, AEM Alt. pulley, nology wires and Unthorthdox race crank pulley. I don't know if this is a good setup or not, but I'll see when I put it together. My first junkyard turbo project.

I read (just recently too) that lightened crank pulleys aren't such a good idea on any car.....it creates a lot vibration that is destructive....just what I read...can anyone verify this?

I've read the same thing. Supposidly they make the crank unbalanced. I've heard horror stories about lightened crank pulleys. I'll never use em, i think it's a waste of money.

hey guys thats some bull that was started to spread for PO.com & NTPC.com, Billy fabraicated his own pulley and it fucked his bearings up. SOME HOW unorthodox took the rap for it and it wasnt evern their pulley. They balance their pulleys and it does nothing but +++ to your engine. I own one

the replies saying they are bad are correct. Although the lighter pulley will make a slight increase in power and throttle response, it is still not worth the risk of damaging your motor. light weight pulley's do not utilize a harmonic balancer or crankshaft damper, so vibrations caused by various accesories are more prone to damaging the motorsome racers including myself use a heavier pulley instead of a lighter one. I'm not talking about a modified pulley but for example I used an LS damper on my B16. your best bet is to stick witht he stock one.

Ditch AC and PS and run an N1 pulley.

Heres a pretty good article:

I sold my UR crank pulley before I even installed it.

My friend was running an Unorthodox crank pulley and he blew his oil pump geras twice with that thing. Went back to stock and no problems.

i been using unorthdox pullys for three years now and never had a problem.but like every product out the someone will have good things to say someone will have bad things to say,the best thing to you is test it for yourself and form your own opinion.
