Doing Hondata IM Gasket install, and it sucks....
Took a while to get all the nuts/bolts off to actually get the im pulled away from the head, and the gasket is so hard to get off. it just tears and comes off in little bits. i can only get the IM about 4 inches away from the head.
Ive sprayed the gasket remover stuff all over it(took off some valvecover paint when doing that) and it makes it come off a little easier. I want to just take off the IM completely, it seems like it would be alot easier, but how many hoses and crap are there to remove to get it off. its being such a pain. all this to make my IM cooler. any advice?

you should take the IM off completely to begin with. you have to scrap off all the old gasket stuff and get a nice clean surface and the only way to do that is to take it off and work up close with it.
its really simple even if you dont have a book. you just gotta remember to put everything back the way you found it.
do that and get a gasket sraper

Hey, I haven't seen you for a while. Whatever happened with the accident you were in? Take the IM all the way off, it's not that hard to put everything back. Let me know if you have any problems, I may be going up your way tomorrow.

After you get the manifold out of the way, load up the paper gasket with gasket remover. Apply it, wait 20 minutes, scrape, repeat. Took me a good four hours, a whole lot of scraping, and almost a full can of gasket remover to remove mine. But when I was done, it looked like this:
I know what you're going through. When I did my Skunk2 IM it was a bitch to het the old gasket off. I finally had to take it to Jotech so they could get the rest of it off for me. It just kept coming off in tiny little pieces.

should be 17ft lbs for the nuts. i just got it all off and am cleaning up the surface a little. so ill let you know if the washers work on my stock gsr. wooooo. finally.
for future references,
-use a razor blade and WD40, it'll get the old gasket out fairly quick...it took me less than 30 minutes to do it...soak it in the WD40 then scrape them off...
-take out one heater hose from the IM, two hoses from the TB, undo the injector clips, take out the Fuel rail with injectors in it, undo the FPR hose and FMU (if you have one)
Yes, use the plastic washer with the IM..you may need to struggle fitting the washer with the stock studs, but it will fit...I did it with mine without having to buy an extended studs..

well got it all done. but the IM was still pretty warm/hot when we got back from the first drive. used the washers too. the head was alot hotter, i could keep my hand on the IM when i couldnt before without the gasket. we didnt do the "race" install either.
one thing. whenever doing this type of install, or anything when you remove the IM, make SURE to retorque everything down again after it has been driven around for a while.
LOL you guys must have some fucked up gaskets. Took me about 10 minutes on both of my motors. Invest in a gasket scraper and quit wasting money on that remover spray crap!
