Default Fodoho woes

Hello, meet Fodoho. (Yes, I actually named the car... )


As some of you may or may not know, Fodoho's had numerous problems since I first took ownership of "her" about a year ago: The most relevent problem I've had can be seen here.

So here's what's going on now...

About a month ago, I was driving home on the freeway when the timing belt snapped. I'm not quite sure exactly why it happened yet but it's possible that it's related to the waterpump. Surprisingly, the snapped timing belt doesn't have any visible cracks on it but both the PS pump belt and the alternator belt do...

Fortunately, I was able to pick up a spare d16z6 and I'm now in the process of swapping that motor in. It's not a pretty motor so I'm hoping it will work. Believe me, if I had the money, I'd be totally willing to do that little extra work necessary to drop in a B series motor. Oh well...

Well, the process so far has been relatively smooth but a few issues and some solutions did come up.
[*]axle nuts were surprisngly no problem at all with a 1/2" drive breaker bar and 6' pole[*]draining the motor oil was a problem with a stripped drain bolt. A drill took care of that for now though...
[*]seperating the lower ball joints to get the axles out was a small pain but doable. Passenger side came out by jacking up the rotor as Patrick94gsr (?) stated once. For the driver side, I followed Inspyral's recommendation of undoing the upper balljoint and dropping the steering knuckle down to get the axle out.[*]darn that spring pin on the shift linkage... It's looking like I might just undo it from the shifter side and just pull the whole thing out with the tranny.
[*]the clutch slave cylinder kind of came apart after unbolting it. Is this normal?




Any tips on any of these problems/issues? Also, I know where to thread bolts for the hoist to attach to but where should I get the bolts? Should I just go to a hardware store and match threads? Any input on what kind of strength bolts I need?

Any other tips? Thanks a bunch.

that peice detaching is normal. Just stick it back on... the boot will hold it.. make sure its aligned properly when reinstalled.

Thanks Peagreenhatch. Got the motor out and transferred the tranny, wiring harness, and a few other things over with the help of a couple friends. Except for ripping a boot on one sensor and pulling another off a wire, things are going relatively well. I'm hoping to get the car up and running soon.
