Default Advanceing the Timeing...How?

How can I advance the timing on my 92 4ws h23a? Its pretty much stock as far as engine mods go, so I just want to advance it one or two degrees. How can I do this? Pictures would be even better Also, how much of a gain would I notice?

thanks!

Turn the distrubutor counter clockwise to advance, you also need a timing light.

Honda does NOT have it in the best place for performance from the factory; it's set for max. reliability. Bump the timing up 3-4 degrees and you'll feel a noticeable increase in low-end torque.

Oh yeah, and to do it, take a razor or sharpie or something and scratch/mark a line across the distributor. This is to know where the stock setting is. Then loosen the three bolts around the distributor cap, and turn it towards the firewall to advance. Then just tighten back up the 3 bolts. Each degree= roughly 1mm of turn

Each degree= roughly 1mm of turn
is this true? so you dont necessarily need a timing light to adjust the timing by a few degrees?

that's right; just make sure you mark the original position so you know where the timing is supposed to be set

You should also run a high octane gas if you advance your timing. Don't you get detonation w/low octane & advanced timing? This may lower your HP

Im sure this sounds dumb, but the distrbituer is the thingie where all the spark plug wires orinate at, correct?

also, about how much would you guys suggest I advance? I was thinking 2.5MM or so. (I always run 93 gas too).

Yes, I agree, if you do not use a higher octane (i use 93 Mobil) your car will be worse off. There will be a ping at idiling and like a flutter inthe rpms. I have my timing advanced to 18 no probs for me (thanks Mike ).
