Why cant i check my codes????

Why cant i check my codes????
I hooked up my with an obd2-obd1 converter p28 w/my hondata s200 and its shooting out codes. The car is a 98 civic dx and i can check codes when the gs-r ecu is in there. I check it with a paper clip in the blue plug but i cant check it with my p28.
ANybody know why?

not sure if you went through the same thing, when you got your hondata did they re-chip your ECU for you??? if they did.... maybe that the problem??
just plug in the the GSR and read the codes off that....

the codes the gs-r ecu is shooting is secondary o2 sensor and crankshaft pulley sensor which an obd1 car will not have, considering my block is a 93 ls, and yes they re-chiped the ecu when i got the hondata s200.
So thats why im thinking its different codes
