starting up the motor without the transmission
hey guys, this is probably a stupid question. but i'm facing a dilemma right now. my budget is pretty tight with school and bills, so i cannot purchase a transmission right now. however, i have a motor to go into my crx. i also am converting my dpfi to mpfi. i would like to test out if the wiring that i did would work. is there a way that i can test out my motor without having the transmission installed? or is there a way that i can test the mpfi without having the motor installed either?
again, i apologize if this is a noob question. thanks for any feedback or tips.

HOLY ****!!!!!!!! I am in the same position as you!! I am doing a b18a swap in my crx dx and just completed my dpfi to mpfi and i want to check if i did it right too. I don't have enough money either to get a tranny. I was just talking about this the other day with my friends, you dont need the tranny to make the motor start but it mounts the starter so if you where to mount the starter some how it could work.
Yeah, as SOHC NoTEC said, you MUST have the transmission on in order to get the starter to spin the flywheel. Or, if you have fabricating skills, make a mount for the starter alone, that would be rather tough.
i'd say try to find a busted tranny case of a tranny you can borrow from a friend. otherwise you will have to fabricate some kind of mount for the starter like spaceballs said.

once you get the starter mounted, all you need to do is run a battery to the starter with a switch... when we did this in school we used a carb engine so i dont know how you will get your fuel to the injectors with it out of the car...
I did this with my Corolla GTS. The starter actually mounts to the trani but I simply got shorter bolts and bolted it to the back platethat goes between the motor and the trani and it worked fine.
I just took out two Si motors, guess I didnt realize that the starteer mounted to the trani there...
Simplest solution if you want to do it is like someone else said get a busted mission...however you could just break off that section that mounts and go for it...
Another is to simply find some type of spacer you can fit the bolts threw that will simulate the distance from the motor those bolts are meant to hold the starter at. Something like a very thick washer.
