LSD: how bad did I screw it up?
I ran off the side of the road into a very deep pothole at about 50 mph this morning. This caused the right front tire to blow out. When I pulled over and checked it, I didn't see anything wrong with the tire. It looked like the bead had come loose and let all the air out, so I figured I could reinflate it.
So I put the spare on the front and drove to the nearest gas station, which was about 2 miles away, going 40 mph or less the whole way.
I know you aren't supposed to run the spare on front because of the LSD, but I wasn't thinking at the time. How bad would 2 miles at 40 or less screw it up?
Oh, in case you're wondering, the tire didn't reinflate. Turns out the sidewall got cut.
But I did at least have sense enough to swap the spare onto the back once I got to the gas station.

I dont think it will really hurt a gear type LSD. That warning is more appropriate with a clutch style LSD, which will get a lot of wear from differing tire sizes, while a gear type LSD should be fine.
Cool. I was hoping that the worst that would happen would be accelerated wear since it's basically like going around a corner the whole time.

I'll have the wheel checked when I get the tire replaced, and I guess an alignment would be a good idea, too.
damn Jack, glad you're okay. You just taught me something though....

Sorry to hear you're thinking about selling the R, man. I hope you realize you're still required to attend expo, though

take the car to a body shop and have them check if the suspension **** is still str8.
they can put it on their body alignment rack and tell you.

I got the tires replaced yesterday and also had an alignment done. Like I said before, I had visually inspected the suspension and surrounding bodywork for damage and had found none. I also asked the mechanic to look it over and he saw nothing. Obviously that isn't as accurate as putting it on a frame machine, but there's no indication at the moment that a frame machine is necessary.
Before the alignment, toe was -0.25 L and -0.35 R (in degrees, right side is the one that got hit). That doesn't seem to be too out of whack.

Sorry to go off topic, but how can you test if your car has a LSD or not? When my shop installed a LSD tranny into my car, they showed that the tranny does infact have a LSD via this method:
The car was on the hoist and the mechanic was turning the drivers side wheel. The passenger side wheel was turning in the opposite direction while he was doing this. The mechanic told me to try and hold the wheel still while he was turning the wheel on his side.....i couldn't! He said this was beause there is a LSD in there....any truth to this?

"I think he means the frame."
