Default pistons: pr3 vs p73-00

besides the coating on the type-r pistons whats the difference between the two? Since they yeild about the same compression in a gsr motor(pr3:11.345 and p73-00:11.333) wouldnt it be better to get the pr3 since you can get a set for alot less? Im choosing between the two because i can get a set pr3, brand new, for $210 compared to $275 for p73-00. i just want to no whats the difference between the two besides compression. thanks

It's the R tetra methyl coating (TML) that makes them more expensive... If you are happy with the JDM ITR P73-00 compression and don't mind spending the extra money then go with them... I don't know what you are planning on doing to your motor but if you're planning on being faster and you want to use OE parts I would look into P30 or PCT slugs... Their compression might be too high for you but with the CTR pistons you atleast have the skirt coating and pretty high compression... That just ends up costing more in the long run tho.. Then you'll probably want to port the head if it already hasn't been done... You'll want injectors and somekind of fuel managment... Hondata works well... Using JDM ITR and PR3 pistons you can probably get away with stock injectors, there's not as much need to port the head tho it still helps, etc... But overall the TML coating isn't really needed, it just helps reduce friction but you'll be fine with the PR3's... I guess it's just up to you... Peace
