Did the Mechanic Screw Me?
I've got a 97 gsr and I took the car in because the clutch wouldn't release sometimes even when I put it to the floor. He said it was the master cylinder so he replaced it and bled the system. $180. Then when that's all done he calls me and says that he still can't get the clutch to release and I need a whole new clutch. $410. Seems to me that if I needed a new clutch in the first place he should've told me that. So should I even have to pay for the master cylinder?
You need to find a mechanic that has experience with Integras. Your Acura dealer service techs may have diagnosed the problem much better. If a mechanic "gueses" at what the problem could be, go elsewhere. Why pay for his guessing?
I got to know a service tech at my local Acura dealer who I have known for over seven years. He's a pro and fixed a few problems on my '01 GSR and does the service on my NSX. Never took the car back to complain about a single repair, ever. It was done right the first time. If you could find a tech that knows the car like the back of his head, stick with him.

Mechanics arent always right. If you give them the green light to replace something and it doesnt fix the problem you still pay for the labor etc. That's why I try to do all the work myself

it could be a few things....one being the master cylinder...i need some more information and i might be able to help you out...if the clutch isnt bleed correctly it will work sometimes if enough pressure is built, which would yeild only a sporadically working clutch, if its the slave cylinder it will usually never work at all no matter what....it could also be a few other things, but by guessing i definatly would have fist guess your master cylinder...which for parts should have been about 60 bucks plus what ever your labor was...ill post the other things it could be in a few when i get back to my house...same in cidence happened on a freinds car...one thing was your floor cover in brake fluid near your clutch pedal? thanks latas hope all goes well!

i just rememeber that the other thing it could be...being your throw out bearing...which is part of your clutch assmebly...and if that's the problem you might as well invest in a new clutch because of all the labor required to pull the tranny...its a good chunk of change if your not doing the work yourself...there ya go...latas and good luck again!
I have a feeling you have a broken piece off of the clutch disc that is spinning inside the casing. When it gets lodged between the disc and pressure plate it makes it hard to get in and out of gear. When it unlodges itself, you can get it in gear easily again. Plus it would explain the symptom of shuddering while engaging the clutch. Time for a new clutch prolly.
Would a bad release bearing cause it to stutter on acceleration in 1st gear? Think exedy organics are worth the extra $$?
I have heard from some mechanics that they replace the slave and master clutch cylinder before anything just to put those out of the question of being the problem. I dont think they screw'd you, i just think they are replacing those things to rule them out, just my .02 cents...
