well there's not too much difference if we're talking powerwise.
All of the US B16A engines produce 160hp. They all have the same compression ratio thanks to the PR3 pistons used, And they all use basically the same camshaft. This is 93-to present US B16A engines I'm speaking of.

For JDM B16s they have 2 types.
type 1 = 89-91
type 2 = 92 to present

Type 1 use the PR3 piston (10.2 cr) and make 160hp..
Type 2 uses a P30 piston; compression is bumped up .2 clicks (10.4); the camshafts are bit better and so is the ecu technology (OBD1), making 170hp.

Thats about it blockwise.....well except for the fact that US OBD2 B16A blocks have a ckp sensor built onto the oil pump, but that's irrelevant in the power dept.

thanks for the reply Katman. as far as power wise, it's less significant from my standpoint, but what i'm concern most is the capability for either the b16a blocks to mate w/ the 99-00si head properly.

i'm planning to pick up a b16a block, that's not from a 99-00si to rebuild for boost; would there be any modification to the block needed to function properly on my 99si head?!?

The first gen B16(88-91) has a lower cam profile than the newer ones.

that's not a problem because i'll be using a 99-00si head. i'm just concerns about the phyisical difference btw them comparing to the b16a2.

Oh, then you won't have any problems at all.
All year B16A/PR3 and GSR/P72 heads are 100% compatible with all year B16A and B18C blocks.
You're good to go.
