overheating problem

I have a EG W/A B16a2 and the damn thing overheats when it wants too. Sometimes it overheats when I let it IDLE and I notice when I rev it to 3000RPM it goes down to regular what could this problem be?

verify your cooling fan is plugged in. if it is, hard wire it to the battery (take a wire and plug it into the fan harness) and see if it comes on.
if it does, the cooling fan switch is probably bad (that is located in the thermostat housing)...
if it does not turn on when it's hardwired, then the fan solenoid and fan will need to be replaced.

Like everyone else said check your fan, but it sounds to me like a bad thermostate. I had the exact same problem with the exact same syptoms in my B18A. Replaced my thermostate and problem solved.
it's only the fan if it doesn't overheat above 35 mph. If it overheats over 35 mph as well, you're looking either thermostat or head gasket. Are you losing coolant into the resevoir? Pull out the t-stat and stick it in 195 degree water and see if it opens up
