Overheating trouble
i have a 94 civic ex coupe and it is overheating...the problem is that the coolant fan isnt going on for the radiator witch is causing the anti-freeze to spew out all over my engine bay from the overflow chamber...i tried changing the fuses and that didnt work, any ideas of what the problem is

Re: (z6honda)
to check if the fan works. pull the fan plug and switch it with the vtec plug. if the fan is good the fan will turn on.
change the thermostat with a geuine honda thremostat about 22 bucks. and flush the system
hope this helps

wait, swapping the vtec plug wire will only make the fan turn on at the vtec point (like 5200 rpm)...
there is an easier way to manually wire the fan also.
The fan control sensor on 92-00 civics is on the thermostat housing behind the distributor, it is the only plug on there, all you have to do is intercept the power wire off of the plug and run it to a switch and then to ground.

If you drive on the Highway (not city) does it still over heat? And if your temp guage goes through the roof and you don't have heat the fan or fan relay is not likely your problem.

yeah and if that's the case you might want to check your overflow bottle out. And then pull your head ><

If it over heats on the highway it is not your fan.
Check your thermostat. It could also be a faulty sensor. The fact that you are not getting any heat through you vents would be a good indication that some else is wrong. My recommendation is a flush and thermostat and then check to make sure that your sensors are wired up correctly.

first, make sure your coolant is full. then make sure there is no air in the system. if there is air in the system the thermostat may not open properly. and the fan wont come on. (the switch for it is on the thermostat housing) or the thermostat is just bad. did you replace it with an oem honda unit? i doubt it would overheat on the highway if it was just a fan problem.

It more certainly would not. That and you would be getting heat inside the cabin.

i'm having the same problem on my 2000 civic si. i've replaced the thermostat, fan switch, and filled the system up with coolant. i have no heat through my vents, and my fan isnt switching on at the normal temp that it should. what i did for a temp fix was pulled the plug off the fan switch on the thermo housing and jumped the pins. it will now run on acc power. but after replacing the fan switch i'm kinda worried that its not making a good enough connection [Plug to sensor] i tryed to take apart the plug to clean the contacts but to this day havent figured out how. so to sum it up, my car overheats on the hwy, fan doesnt come on unless i run it switched. actually today i put some bulb grease on the plug and stuck it back on. i'll let you guys know what i come up with in the next few days.

no heat coming from the vents probably means theres air in your system or just not enuff coolant.......when it fluctuates (the idle) from 500-1500 thats what happens when your car is overheating and theres not enuff coolant in your rad...

Re: Overheating trouble (z6honda)
Some (more common) reasons for overheating:
Insufficient Coolant in system
Radiator Core blocked or grille restricted
Electric coolant fan blades broken or cracked
Radiator cap not maintaining proper pressure
Ignition timing incorrect
