What kind of pulleys AEM or UNORTHODOX RACING!
I have a 2001 honda civic ex and i want to put some pulleys on it what should i go with AEM pulleys, or UNORTHODOX RACING pulleys.which ones are better for my car.
neither, stay stock, they dont help. If you just want em for bling, get AEM.

Do they compromise reliablity? I have a B18C1 Im rebuilding and putting in a gen2 teg. The crack pulley needs to be replaced so Im thinking of just getting an aftermarket pulley set.
Anybody have good/bad experience they would like to share?

they do to help... even if they're the same size and lighter there will be less drag on your belt system allowing that power to go to the trans instead.
The only thing to consider as a downside is the fact that they UNDER DRIVE your accesories... this would be bad on most cars... especially those with high demand electrical systems... as the underdriven alternator may not provide the proper power to keep the battery charged and all your accesories running (stereo etc).
HOWEVER with the high redline of honda engines and the tendency of us to take advantage of this COMPLETELY eliminates this problem.. most alternators put out less voltage at idle and more at higher rpms delivering it's rated output at anywhere from 2500-3500 rpm. Even with the under drive pulleys on your alternator will put out plenty of voltage at 4-5k where we spend plenty of time.
another concern might be reliability and strength of the parts but I don't think you need to worry about that from aem... and it's probobly not worth worring about as there is not much stress put on pulleys.

Don't waste your money. I had a set of unorthodox pullies on my sohc and they did jack **** except make my head lights dim at idle (yes even after i installed a new battery).
Your not going to gain anything from them (maybe 1 hp if you use the alt, and crank pulley).
I've heard of people claiming that it caused uneven wear on there crank (caused excessive wear on rod bearings ) and having to rebuild there engine. The explanation was because when you use the pullies it removes weight from one side of the crank and not the other, also you no longer use the harmonic balancer.
I didn't use them long enough to know...but if your doing to gain performance don't do it, waste of time and money

Good facts. Im bulding this hybrid actually for a reliable beater not to go fast. My priority is going into the turbo GSR project. So Ill just stick with OEM, its cheaper anyways.
