SOHC experts please help!!!
i did a mini-me swap on my d15b7 witha d16y8 head and it wont start, i'v tryed everything and talked to alot of people that have done this swap and had problems and nothing is working. all i want to know is if not removing the oil jet out of the block would keep it from starting, i know that it will keep v-tech from kicking in but dont know if it will keep the engine from starting. the car turns over fine and starts to start but wont completely start. it sounds kinda wiered but that the bast way i can describe it.
That sounds like a timing issue. Make sure you have the timing set up correctly. When the number 1 cylinder is a top dead center(TDC), the cam gear should have the "UP" indicator at the highest point, with the two opposing grooves on the cam gear level with the ground.
If the timing is lined up perfectly, then check your distributor. You're ignition wires could be in the wrong order and/or the rotor might be on backwards (I've done that, lol). Last but not least, some of the spark plugs might be dead.
Make sure that you are getting fuel in each cylinder as well.
--I screwed up big time when I first dropped in my new Z6/Y8 motor. I accidently set the cam gear with the "UP" indicator at the very bottom! Of course it didn't start, but luckily I didn't hit any valves.. (the intake and exhaust valves just opened at the opposite times)
ALSO: The oil jet must be removed. It's not just going to disable vtec, but the oil circulation in the head is gonna be screwed up big time. I'm not sure if it would keep your motor from starting, but there is a very big chance that you will damage the entire engine by keeping the oil jet installed in the block!

i know that the timing is set right on the cam gear. i took all the belts and drive pully off to make shure the crank was also at TDC and they both match. the distrubuter is on right. can you put the rotor on backwards, i thought it would only go on one way. i'll have to check that, if thats whats wrong, i'm gona feel realy ****** stupid cuz i'v been workin on this thing for a few days now tryin to find out whats wrong.
i'm getting spark, i know thit because i took the plugs out and grounded them on the valve cover and they all got spark when i tryed to start it. i know i am getting gas, i know this because when i took the plugs out there was gas on them and i have a realy miner fuel leak before the fuel rail that has been there for about a mounth that i havnt fixed yet. and there is another twist to the story. since i did the head swap my alarm quit working and i dont have any loose connection or blown fuses. and no check engine light. i am stumped!
parts i used:
d15b7 block
d16y8 head
d16y8 distriputer
d16y8 head gasket
d16y8 intake gasket
d15b7 intake manifold
d15b7 po6 ecu (with fields v-tech controller but it's not hooked up yet)
civic VX timing belt
i am posotive that the cam timing is exactly perfect, i had 5 people check it befor i put it back together. the distributer only fits one way, but the rotor is facing the the wrong direction in the dist.. it is facing the number 3 plug and should be 180 degrees the other way facing number one. can the rotor go on backward? i though it would only go on one way? but i rearanged my wires to componsate for this problem and it still wont start. but that may be becasue it isnt hitting the coil plug at the right point (i have an external msd blast 2 coil and sci ignition controller). i'll try and switch my rottor around and get back to you. and no, its not my MSD stuff, i pulled the coil wire off the dist. cap and held it about a centimeter away from the plug wile my friend tryed to start the car and i got spark between the two.

Try checking the Distributer ... Im assuming your car is a 92-95 honda civic .
Well when doing a swap you must keep the DISTRIBUTER and the ECU same year ect . I know you can use the 96+ distributer with a 92-95 P28 ECU , but I dont think you can do that with a P06 non-vtec ECU . I could be wrong but check that ...
Oh and when you set your #1 piston to TDC and your cam gears are set , you should take your distrubuter cap off and make sure the rotor is pointing to the #1 spark plug wire on the cap .
Hope that helps

your Msd setup should have came with a bypass plugout for the wiring make sure it works with the factory setup before you swap electronics. you may have spark but in what order? its probably something so simple yet the obviouse won't reveal itself. good luck.
