Anyone using a Spoon flywheel?
some people grinded the flywheels.....some people still haven't to this day.
BigPhatR is one who hasn't.....I grinded mine many an occasion till I swap out the Denso starter for the one in the 99/00 Si/SiR which is a Mitsuba unit.
I no longer use the Spoon flywheel and have since gone with the CM one....I still use the Mitsuba starter.

the teeth were knicked up....not something I really appreciated since I only used it for about 6months? I can't even remember..my car is not even a daily driver.....
I like my CM more than the Spoon though.....

i had one in my EG it would grind every once in a while but not often,i liked it driving in stop an go traffic was kinda shitty but youll get that with a lightened FW
it's like 50/50 that do have problems and the other half not.... is it worth the venture. I am looking into getting a toda fw, but am also affraid of running into problems.
So lightweight flywheels are prone to grinding? I thought my synchros were going bad..

No, it has to do with the angle of the teeth on the flywheel. The toda and most USDM flywheels have a beveled edge, the spoon does not. The JDM start (along with the SI starter) is designed to work with a none beveled edge so no grinding. However on USDM starters there is a chance of grinding. Why some people don't grind and some people do, I don't think we will ever know.
