EG Owner with FMIC 3" Thick, Help Please
Hey guys, I have a FMIC that is 3" thick, and I am still using my OEM bumper
Instead of being this :
I bought a new bumper already, and I REALLY want to keep the stock grill, Is there anybody that has stock grill with FMIC, if so, how did you guys do it??
I have checked the measurements between the FMIC and the bumper, there's like 1.5 " on the top and 1" on the bottom IN THE MIDDLE.. but as for the sides of the FMIC, there is no space at all....
so what can I do??
thank you !

If u have an IC period, i think theres no way to keep yer stock grill.. i dont think u can keep it...but then again, i could be wrong

I cut my grill out completely, dusted the intercooler black, and then put a black grill in the cutout. It looks stock until you get right up on it. I don't know how to get picture up, if you want to see it let me know how to get them up or I can e-mail them for somebody to post.
on my friends eg hatch his fmic wasn't even that thick but he still had to cut out the stock grille so that everything would fit. what we ended up doing was cutting out the whole grille as neat as we could, and then trimmed it down depth-wise. when we got the stock grille thinner than it used to be, we managed to (after reinstalling IC and bumper) slide the grille back where it used to be and then using black zipties on the insides to hold it in place. if i remember correctly it is very very hard to get it to the point where it will sit exactly where it used to, but we got it to sit just flush with the front of the bumper. so it didnt look exactly stock if you looked close enough, but at just a glance the bumper looked fine with the grille still intact. good luck with whatever you choose to do

how did you fasten that mesh screening behind your bumper? That looks really good! I was going to just cut my bumper and let my fmic hang out, but it would probably be better to add a mesh grill, it looks hella good and will save my intercooler from big *** highway rocks! Got any more pics?????
i just trimmed along to see where the intercooler hit the bumper and cut along it...but keep in mind i removed the bumper support it gave me room to move the whole things higher which cleared alot of the lower bumper....but since i took that pic i have had a small confrontation with a tree so when the body shop redid everything they also cut the whole grill off
...but its okay i guess...

wow that looks really good man. how low is your car? my friends eg hatch was lowered like 2 and had the b18c in it which made it a little lower. with the fins of the stock grill in front of the fmic, you could barely see the ic until you got like a block away
to a clean job

alright now that is the shitz hella hidden damn...i should do this to mine hmmmm...i dunno yet lol.....i lowered my car about 3-3.5 all around its pretty low and will go a little lower when i get my koni sp3 shocks....
Thanks for posting my pic. Yeah, it's really hidden. My car is pretty low, I have KW fully adjustable coilovers on it. I don't have problems with the intercooler, just the radiator. I converted to a GSR radiator, I 'm changing it over to a Fluidyne or PWR in the next week or two so I can get my traction bars in.
damn, i stand corrected, but even when retaining yer stock grill, you have to trim it, and can easily see the IC in most cases, oh wells, nice work guys..
