why does my car always make a knocking noise when it's cold ... it sounds like the rods, people are always telling me to check my oil - oil is full, and still makes the noise ... only does it when it's cold so I am like 99% sure it's not a rod

 

Engine isnt lubricated, which causes the knocking sounds. Once the oil splashes around it will go away. Nothing to worry about.

 

Could be unadjusted valves and once it heats up the oil is compensating for it.

 

is there any way to keep it lubricated? because on cold days I will hear it for like 5 minutes til the car is just below halfway on the thermostat

 

its called piston slap ........all D-series engines do it all you have valves that make nose when cold ...both are normal traits of a honda engine...

 

Very true. I know some older Accords are like that for sure....
