Default Need help from smart people

ok i need some help to get a synopsis of what is wrong with my car, so here goes;
during the winter takes really long to heat up, once heated up i turn the heat on and it blows out cold air, when driving in normal traffic (in the winter) car starts to over heat, at a stop cars idle is not normal (anywhere from 2000 to 1000 rpm) i always have to fill it with coolant, but it is not going into the over flow tank, i used to have to fill it up with oil all the time but now i don't (i think the oil and coolant are mixing)and the clutch is going out. my car is a 92 civic lx sedan with 140,000 clicks on it the over heating problem has been going on for more than 6 months, got a new radiator and thermostat and still over heats. i want to get a new engine but my dad thinks i should just rebuild it. how much do you think it will cost to fix (me doing it or someone else) and what are some really persuasive reasons to get a new engine then fixing the old one. thnaks alot guys!!

Is it leaking at all? Any coolant puddles under the car? May wanna try just replacing the water pump, check all your coolant lines and a/c lines. give us a little more info and we can probably help ya out.

well a new engine could run you maybe 2000 to 5000 depending on what b you want to get....thats if you want to get a b series motor....(they are the easiest swap)

most engines used in transplants from japan only have about 30000 miles on them...

Heres what you can say to your dad..
...I found out that it is really easy to change the engine in my car......

We can probably do it in a weekend....considering we have enought tools....and all the right parts..

I have been using this online message board (Honda-Tech) by searching old archived threads and creating new ones with questions that the search button couldn't answer....

The guys there assured me, that It is not that much of a difficult process to change the engine.....

We can go to several online stores: PasswordJDM, H Motors Online, Import Auto Salvage just to name a few.. to buy complete engine change overs for under 5K depending on what I want to put in my car...

Also, I say swap if you plan on keeping your car....but if you plan on selling it soon or trading it for another car then just rebuilt or sell as is...

Usually people swap because they love their car, and there is probably no way in hell, that someone could take their car from them....

If you are not one of these people, then dont swap....

if your waterpump doesnt work it will overheat. Or the fan may not be turning on. Run your engine to operating temp and see if your fan turns on. About the idle. Does it do this all the time or just sometimes? When?

it might cost you a lot of $$...
especially if the mechanic has to do trial and error on your since there might be more than 1 thing wrong with it

same thing happened with my pos geo. it had major heating/cooling problems. two busted headgaskets, a new head, radiator, etc. not worth fixing at all. you can get your same engine for $1-300 used from someone who has done a swap. cheaper than the repair bill is gonna be. with mine i had green coolent, not antifreeze and it got damn cold and turned to slush in my engine and it cracked. check your thermostat too and see if its working. get a new engine. d series are 1/4 or 1/5th the cost of b series.

Sounds like a good reason for a new engine.
