Another J's Racing review and a ?.
Well the R is officially not stock, just got done installing my J's Racing intake (www.aj-racing.com great as always). I was a little suprised when I opened it up because it's not the polished cf your used to seeing, it has more of a dull satin finish, very nice.
Here's what I noticed:
- This is the hardest to install intake ever, Vaseline is your friend! It's near impossible to get the rubber gasket onto the intake and then equally impossible to get the gasket over the intake manifold.
- 1k-4k not a noticable change
- 4k-7k WOAH this is where the intake shines, engine is way more responsive, there's a noticable increase in torque/power too. Butt dyno says maybe 5-7hp and maybe 5lb/ft of torque here.
- 7k-8.5k not a big difference other than sound
So basically like everyone else says this intake is great in the midrange and the quality seems to be top notch and car is loud as fawk at full throttle. This thing is huge, it touchs everything, strut bar, ac lines, and I think maybe my hood. I'm definitely going to have to do something about the rubbing and make sure it's not touching my hood.
Here's my question:
Did any of you guys bend down your AC lines a bit to get the intake a little lower? I mean if it's just touching the strut bar I'll just put a little something in there to keep it from rubbing a hole but if it's touching the hood I'm going to have to do something.
Well thanks for reading my review, hope it helps some others make their decision. If you have any questions let me know.

Some guy with a gsr on the integra board dynoed his car with a comptech icebox vs. a js racing intake. The Js racing intake made less hp and tq.
Here is his dyno:

Really I don't see why people make comparisons between cold air setups and under hood setups, they're two different systems. I knew when purchasing this intake that an AEM or Comptech would probably make more power but I wasn't interested in a cold air intake so I chose the J's. I read up on the intake and was impressed with what everyone said and that's why I chose the J's.

I love the j's alot but i am just not digging that the j's is eatting the HOT air on your engine bay. ( As all short ram intake does).
Again, these intakes are for different types of setups. I'm in favor for more midrange and throttle response on track. I'm for the J's.
Thanks,
Victor

The carbon fiber is dry carbon which is stronger and lighter than wet carbon, the stuff you are used to seeing.
the other maintains it original purpose , lightweight
no one also has figured in the J's Racing Air Intake Duct, which i'm thinking about covering to for more of a midrange power and better throttle response for autocrossing.

J's Racing Intake is an excellent short ram. I doubt you'd find any better numbers from a short ram except maybe a custom intake. It is NOT a CAI, and I don't think it should be compared to one.
Let's just say that I did not miss my AEM CAI at all when I got my J's. Might have lost a peak hp, but who cares? Midrange is much more important than a few peak HP to most of us.
I'm very happy with my J's.... just wishing I could make a Mugen-style cold air duct. Really hoping the J's Intake Duct works, but somehow I doubt it with out alot of extra work.
J's Racing Air Intake Duct.
i want to do this to my j's intake as well. any one have some pointers on how to going about doing it or what i should use? look to the left in the picture

IMO, AEM or Ice box make more power than J's or Mugen intake (other JDM brands). JDM companies care more about the mid-range acceleration and ON/OFF response. What they care about is to increase the driveability and develop useful power ranges more than just peak numbers.
IMO, "RESPONSE" is very important to real life driving. How often you hit the rev limiter and get to the peak power point ? Everyday ?
Pretty much when you are in the car 1000-7000rpm is the usual rpm that's gonna be involve to your daily driving.

yes agreed, endyn is bullshit bigtime
and they arent the best at anything no matter what people say, i just want to isolate the filter of my j's from the rest of the engine. would sheet metal be the best choice? what about aluminum?
