Default Necessary to unplug the battery while putting in a fuel kill switch?

I was wondering if u need to unplug the neg terminal in the battery before working on a kill switch for the fuel. I dont have the radio code so the damn thing wont turn on if I cut off the power supply.

No need to kill the power... while the car is off there is no voltage on the fuel pump hot wire!
