Default Car alarm I heard today when i walked by

I was walking past a car today in the parking lot, it was actually a civic. As i walked by it started chirping, like it knew i was there. Anyone know who makes this? or what it is?

basically you just encountered a radar or field disturbance sensor
its design to place an "invisable" bubble around a car...your enter the field
it sounds...simple. They run about $50 bucks for a dual zone ( inner and outer perimeter) model uninstalled.

the alpine alarms have a very nice motion sensor with their alarms. if you are interested in installing a new alarm, they are $429 installed (150R). features include: shock sensor, motion sensor, basic alarm features and 4 programable outputs. alpine makes a quality alarm.

that's funny. If someone is gonna steal your car, a chirp is not gonna scare them away.

Peichie, what do you think of that 150R compared to a viper or clifford alarm? Think theyre better/worse?

My Clifford Concept 600 has that feature, it's called a proximity sensor, mine is dual stage so it detects if someone is too close and, if I leave a window rolled down when I arm the alarm, it will detect if someone reaches into the car.

My Excalibur dual zone 84ta shock sensor sucks. POS chirps when you hit the car only. I dont know wtf is dual about it. Hopefully viper one is better.

yeah what you encountered was a proximity sensor... it detects objects/disturbances through the glass and plastic of your car and if someone walks into the protected "field" it will chirp the siren..

my Clifford alarm had a dual stage proximity sensor also..if someone got really close to the window (like checking out the stereo) the alarm would chirp.. and if they stuck their hand inside the cabin (which wouldn't happen since I had window and sunroof closure modules) the alarm would go off for the full duration...

shock sensor is not equal to proximity sensor. the name says it all.........shock sensor senses SHOCK. proximity sensor senses someone in the PROXIMITY (which is just a big fancy 3-syllable word for area...which in and of itself is 3 syllables, but much fewer letters).

yeah a dual stage shock sensor is a "shock/impact" sensor.. not a proximity sensor.. what they meant (hopefully it functions this way) by dual stage.. is that when the car receives a light tap.. it will chirp a "warn away" chirp from the siren and flash the parking lights... and if the car receives a harder/more substancial impact/shock.. then it will set off the alarm for the full 30 second duration (or whatever time duration you set it at).. thats the dual stage..

1st stage - light tap = chirp
2nd stage - hard hit/tap = full siren..
