Default most likely a pretty simple question

After I drive hard a bit, sometimes I'll get the smell of burnt oil, not like a strong scent but I can smell it none the less, is that normal?.. I'm running mobil 1 and I know it burns a lot but am I supposed to be smelling it? I'm not getting any blue smoke out the exaust as far as I know either.

What are your mods?

Are you burning oil?

If you're not burning oil and your car isn't smoking, don't worry about it.

This happened when I ran 5w 30 Mobil 1.
I could never get 10W 30 Mobil 1 or ANY other oil of any weight to do what you described, only M1 5w30.

I would not worry about it unless you see smoke.

Yeap, 5w30 M1 is blue cap, 10w is green.

Try 10w30 when it warms up outside (unless you are in the warm weather already), i bet you won't smell what you smell with 5w.

maybe you spilt some oil on your engine or tranny, the heat will fry the oil giving you the smell, mine will smell for a few days with oil changes.

yea I thought that at first but it's been a few weeks since I changed the oil so wutever got on the manifold should be toast by now. Well I'm in Norcal so 10w-30 should be fine eh? hasn't been too cold whats the temperature ratings on liek 10w-30?

yeah i'd have to agree with the previous members, just keep checking your oil every now and then to make sure there's oil. i remember when my first car (gsr) burned oil as well i ran with no oil but at least i used synthetic oil. ahah that was a long time ago and i was young and didn't know any better. i don't know how true it is but i hear that ITR's burn a lil oil from time to time but that's when you really get on it...i don't know how hard you drive it but that might be something too but it wouldn't explain the constant oil burning smell. don't know if i helped with your situation but good luck with your oil problem.

Do you have an aftermarked intake? If you didn't replace the hose from the breather valve you could be smelling oil from the blow-by caused from driving it hard.

oh no it's not constant, it only occurs after driving it hard then it goes away after a bit
