SRS Reset: MES connector Voltage = 0.00V
I've been trying and trying and trying to do the paper clip trick. No luck. So after many tries, I finally went against the Haynes manual warning and used my DMM on the MES connector to see what was up. 0.00V:eek:
So something must be loose in the system or something, right? I actually have a '97 Accord EX. The MES connector was damn near on the firewall behind the driver's kick panel fuse box. I tested the voltage at another connector DIRECTLY UNDER THE steering column (the steering wheel harness had already been disconnected) and I got a voltage reading of like 4.00+ volts.
But I'm getting nothing at the MES connector with all harnesses apparently properly connected. And the fuse is fine. Is there another fuse for the SRS system other than the one in the driver's kick panel? I didn't see one under the hood.

You have to be careful when probing those SRS wires. A voltage change or high current draw could set off the airbag and blow you into the back seat.
I know this. I know. But all day today and yesterday I've been trying numerous times to do the paper clip reset procedure. I don't get anything. SRS light doesn't even blink or go off when I turn the ignition to "ON" with the paper clip in the MES connector.
From what I understand, the paper clip is suppose to "short" the MES control unit or something. Well, the paper clip can't be shorting ANYTHING if I get a 0.00V reading. Can't short circuit a circuit that's not complete or whatever.

are you 100000000% sure is the connector you looking at is mes? it might sound dumb but in my car there's two mes look-a-like connector.
Yes! It's a yellow wire loom going to the firewall side of the driver's side kick panel fuse box in a '97 Accord EX 4cyl. It has the two grey wires as described in all other threads I've read on Honda boards. There was also a tech sheet for the Honda Odyssey in PDF that described the plug as the same location on the Odyssey.
I checked the plug behind the coin tray in a place similar to that described in a Prelude's manual, but that was a 3-socked plug.
I mean, if I'm supposed to be shorting the circuit in the MES connector, shouldn't there be a voltage when I insert the two probes of the DMM. (Again, I know you aren't supposed to use test equipment).
