What forged pistons have the least piston to cyl. wall clearance? or they all the same?
I'm planning on using forged pistons in my daily driver, n/a w/ the occasional nitrous. And I'm wondering if there's a brand that usually has a tighter clearance than all the others so everytime i start up my car (like a dozen times a day) it's not slapping all over the place.
Pistons with high silicon content expand less than pistons with low silicon content and as such can have very tight cylinder wall clearance. The highest silicon content I'm aware of is in OEM Honda pistons. Aftermarket forged pistons tend to have somewhat less, but Wiseco & JE/SRP, have a higher silicon content than Ross & Arias and as such are able to manufacture pistons with tighter cylinder wall clearances.
I've no idea what silicon content Toda pistons have, but if Sgt says they have tight cylinder wall clearances I suspect they're a high silicon content piston.

Awesome! I was planning on using SRP's or Wiseco's anyway (seem to be the least expensive). Thanks for the help!

actually Arias are way high on the list ...
very low on the list are Toda and Ross .. and new Endy Kukta
in the middle are the Endyn lines made by Wiseco ...

All the info I've seen on Arias pistons indicates they're low silicon and therefore expand more than other manufacturers pistons(Wiseco, JE/SRP). I think if you do a search on Arias pistons you'll likely find several people commenting on the noise they make when cold. Certainly tolerable, but something to be aware of.
Oh ok, thanks for clearing that up. So srp or wiseco's are a good choice then eh.
I don't give two ***** about noise...but I don't want them to beat the hell out of themselves and the walls everytime I start her up.
the more hp you make, the more clearance you will need with a forged piston.
something to keep in mind

****, it wont be much, d16a6, maybe like 150-160whp...then the occasional 80 shot.
the clearance specs are not the only reason why the pistons are so loud.I dont know if anyone has really noticed this, but stock honda pistons dont have the wrist pin hole right in the middle of the piston.Usually it will be offset to one side to prevent the piston from rocking around so much.If you do a search on it on the web, youll see that this has been done for a while already to make engines run a little quieter.Arias pistons i know for a fact do not have offset wrist pins.
