please...i need your help
ok i am having major problems with my car. i put a new clutch in and wont start.. that is not all, there is more. also i disconnected the batt. a couple times trying t find out the problem then the last time i tried to reconnect it and it sparked a lot and the cables got very hot and smoked. i checked all of the fuses and even got a new ground cable for my batt. and it is still happening i really need to fix this and i have no idea of what it could be. i really need your help please any thing will help me.
i think you hooked up a wire or cable wrong and it is causing a short. try looking around like ur starter, alternator and battery wire, make sure you dont have a positive wire touching a ground wire and ground not touching a posistive. or positive terminal hooked up to a ground terminal and postive hooked up to a ground. hope that helps that would most likely causes that problem.
ok i have checked everything again and there looks to be nothing that is incorrectly connected...everything looks ok. i am getting so frustrated i havent had my car for almost three weeks waiting for my clutch then only havin little time to work on my car.. i hate this it is impossible to figure out but you guys are still helpin a lot.. a thousand thanks

Its probably your starter. I had an cutlass 85 supreme and somehow the starter got fried and when I went to start it, the wire started to burn and melt. I replaced the starter and wiring and everything was back to normal.

did the car not start before you decided to change the clutch? or did the not starting and sparking/shorting wires start after your clutch install? I know you said that the wires are all correct.. but I think you should double check them.. check that the ground wire is grounded at the battery, tranny and motor and that the + wire is at the + terminal and the - wire is at the - terminal.. I know it sounds obvious.. but sometimes people overlook the obvious...
if this problem occured after your clutch install it has to be one of the wires or maybe you possibly snagged/frayed a wire accidentally causing a short...
check all the fuses again ALL of them.. under hood and under dash.. and check the wiring AGAIN...
