idle fluctuates
i know the topic of idles has been beat to death.. but this car im workin on the idle is all crazy
like itll idle at 700 but then itll jump to 1200 then itll idle at 700 then jump to 1200 then itll just go 700-1200 700-1200...i also hear a click followed by a high pitch squeel
any ideas?

mine was from the o2 sensor. it would lean out and then go back to normal. lean out and again and again. making the revs jump up and down. got both o2 sensors now. and it runs great
thats very interesting..because even with the fuel pressure set low at 30psi on idle my plugs are black with carbon all around except for the electrode ...running extremely rich
ill have to check that
ill have to check that
my car did this too, i think more than 50% of the people on this board have come across this problem some time or another.
first thing to do is try disconnecting the negative battery cable for about 10-15seconds and connecting it again. then try starting the car to see if it made any difference, sometimes it's just that easy.

done that about 50 times now
because ive tried playin with the idle screw and you gotta reset the ecu when you take off the Idle Air Valve.
anyone else

Squeeking noise? When you open the hood, is the squeeking noise coming from the distributor? I had this problem too and its bad news, you needa new distributor. About 5 or 10 mins after i left the motor running while i heard that squeeking/squeeling noise my ecu threw a code 4 which was the Crank Angle Sensor located inside the Distributor. The bearings inside it are shot. Thats exactly what happened to me, the idle would drop the go up, drop then go up. If you want, take off your distributor and try to spin the shaft, if its hard to spin its your bearings, it should spin fairly easy if its still good (you should be able able to grip the 2 teeth between your 2 fingers n turn it easily)
