NHRA Rule.. Do they inforce this
So I'm reading threw the rule book and I come across the rule about having intake tubes hanging out of the onepiece frontends. I have a onepiece with the light cut out with a iceman ram air (civic headlamp replacement) . I see it done everywhere I go. From reading this rule that is not allowed anymore or I'm reading this wrong. If that is the case are the officials realy hard on this......
Rule book reading under ALL MOTOR..
Lightweight body panels permitted. Body must retain a finished
appearance, with full fenders, hood, and bumpers (or fascia kits),
and paint. Air intake tube may not be routed outside of body, hood
scoop permitted. Otherwise, only factory air-inlet openings
permitted.

I think the key word is "routed outside of body". You can replace the headlight just not have the intake sticking out of it. At least thats how I read it.
we encountered this rule last year at Gainesville, they do inforce this rule, but you can do it as long as the pipe or filter is not protruding the body...Skunk did it like that all year long.
Thanks guys.. I think I will be fine because alot of the big turbo cars have the circle cut on of the front end in the middle.

edit: used to work on the "Skunk2 race team"...

the scoop mentioned above does pass tech. Ours did all last season. But more power is usually made with a filter on believe it or not.
and the extended filter and tube is ala joel mandel. He had it a few years ago.
yes they are strict against it.

Sorry, missed this thread somehow. As long as the scoop is flush with the body line or headlight opening, you're ok. Last year at Gainesville Skunk 2 had to cut their's back until it was flush. From the rest of the responses, looks like everyone is on the right track.
Ram air is a good idea but at 100 MPH the map sensor reads 1 lbs of boost, that is why you see guys with two intakes put togather couming out the front light with a filter on the end. The Filter breaks up the air stream and still gets cold air.
