Please describe the play in the shifter a bit more. All stock shifters can move around while in gear, especially with stock rubber bushings. When my shifter was stock I could move it side to side quite a bit while in gear. The rubbery feeling makes me hate stock Civic and Integra shifters with a passion. Now I have an aftermarket short shifter (took out most of the play) and then added polyurethane shift bushings (helped a little more).

Need more info like Patrick said, but I'm going to assume that your shift linkage is loose. Get under the car and tighten the bolt with a 12mm socket/wrench.

That would be the most expensive solution to fix the problem.

your bushings are either worn out....or your linkage is loose

thanks a lot for the reply guys. ok when it is in nutruel (sp) and all gears, it moves side to side very loosly around 1.2 centimeters of travel. after this travel, it is tight again. it feels like the shifter is a big screw that is not screwed in all the way.

and i do not plan on buying aftermarket shifters. i like the stock GSR (except for the looseness)

throw on some urethane bushings and tighten everything to spec while you're under there.

It is normal for the shifter to move side to side ~1cm, especially when in neutral. Polyurethane bushings won't cure this, as I have them and a B&M shifter and I have the same shifter slop. I had a Skunk2 before and it eliminated all slop.
