Stolen S2000s?
I had a 98 ITR that was stolen and stripped..I now have a 97 ITR which has been a victim of attempted theft many times, as recent as last week..Anyways, i just bought an '03 S2000 and i'm a little worried about it. I know it's a lot less likely to be stolen than an ITR but i was just curious to see if anyone has ever experienced any problems with theft.....thanx..BTW, how tall are you guys driving this car? I'm 6-2 and if i was an inch taller i don't think i would be able to drive it..The seat is all the way back..Love the car though
No where close to the stolen car rates of the integra or the civic but you still have to be careful. The most commen theft is a joyride and S2000's are not easy to start unless you know exactly what your doing. But commen sense applies, keep your lid up when ever you park, keep away from known theft area's if you can. Get a prox. alarm for the interior.
The biggest thing you are going to see if you do some searchs is, one seats get stolen alot, and they are not cheap to replace (4K a piece). Keyed or roof cut.

As it was explained to me you simply can not buy the seats complete like other honda's you simply must replace every piece in the seat. So with the rails and all the seperate pieces in the seat it just adds up.

as far as braking into your S2000 that's up to your alarm. As far as the whole car getting stolen, it isn't going to happen you have an immobilzer built into your key and ignition and unless they work at honda like me and have access to the brake code you're not going to get your car stolen.

Edit: There can't be that many inside jobs. I've been told that they know how to get around the immobilizer somehow???

Sounds familiar to me.
My '98 ITR was stolen almost a year ago and that was after three total previous attempts.
I bought a 2002 S2000 and I have much less worries than with the ITR. I am 5'11" 1/2 and I fit perfect. I love this car more and more after every drive.
what the hell were you smoking? I could understand $1k per seat (if you were to pay retail from a honda dealer), but $4k.??? WTF.
A set of used seats on ebay (or anywhere) would sell for about $800-$1000 in perfect shape.

seats cost 4K a piece so 8K if you need to replace both when stolen, moral of the story keep your car away from seat stealers.
4K is what you would pay to the dealership if you wanted them plain as that, just remeber that all those 1000 doller seat sets on ebay and the like are more then likely of dubious origin.
The key imoblizer takes all of 45 seconds to get around at least thats what it takes me, or anubody else with a understanding of alarm systems hince all the stolen type R's. A good chunk of high end cars are simply towed off or the theifs are looking for a specific model and have access to the dealer alarm wiring sheet.
The S2000 luckly is so far removed from the other acura/honda lines that the theft for motor or parts is relatively small hence small theft rate.

$4k each seems a bit much on the seats. I'm looking at a parts catalog, all the assorted major parts add up to about $2300 MSRP and can be had from discount online stores for about $1800. Not cheap, but not 4 grand either.
