How many of you semi-high compression guys are running a p28?
The reason why i ask is i'm planning to go with a chipped p28 and then go with hondata in the future. Neither of these can read the knock sensor. I calculated my compression at c-speedracing.com to be 11.67393990726882:01. Is that high enough to be worry about knocking? I'm leaning towards getting a p72 for peace of mind, but i also want to know what you guys think. thanks.
normally it wouldn't be a problem, but I run some pretty aggressive timing and I filled with Esso (Exxon) 92octane instead of my usual Chevron..and for the 1st time ever, I heard detonation in my car..
swapped out my hondata for the stock ECU ran down that tank of gas before I went back to it....

RagingAngel: Do you mind if i ask you how high your compression is? Would your car still detonate with your aggressive timing if you had a p72?
I wish i had local access to 100 octane fuel. I'm running stock ecu with 91 octane (cali sucks). Hm...now i don't think the risk of detonation is worth the 100 extra bucks i may save with opting for a p28. Thanks for the info.

p72 isn't going to save your engine, only works under 5000rpm.. better than p28, but not the best thing

J&S safeguard???
Running 12:1 compression and a chipped P28 ECU. Running the Skunk2 Stage 2's, and the high lift, big overlap helps to reduce the dynamic compression ratio.
Oh wow, I was unaware that the knock sensor only worked 5000 rpm and below. I guess it is true that i learn something new everyday from H-T.
About the J&S safeguard, where can i get this? I've heard rumors that it was pricey

J&S is by far the best.....
the money you will spend on the P72 or the P30 is best saved into investing into one of these units.
The OE sensor as mentioned above is only good up to 5000rpm. And it gets confused by aftermarket pistons too usually....(lot more noise)
I only want one (stock KS) for my daily driver, and in my efforts to boost off idle response in the city on my 10.8 CR car, I ran it with some stupid timing, which works good...but needs A LOT more tuning.
Mine doesn't benefit from dyno or wideband cuz my wallet is dry..... so a factory knock sensor is a bandaid for my temporary problem.

I am in Cali.
100 octane is available at all local race tracks.
