WRONG

a short block is just the block ,pistons rods crank oil pump
a long block is is just the block ,pistons rods crank oil pump + head cams valves

long block is head, block, both manifolds everything but the harness ecu and tranny
it would be sufficent enough to just drop in without other work.. (if you understand what that was meaning to say then, you get my point?? )

short block is bottom end and oil pump
no head no IM, NO ecu no harness at times, and no tranny, no mounts

Not to Hi-jack this man's thread or anything but is that the difference between a "small-block" and "big-block" as well? Because I hear the corvette engine referred to as a small-block V-8 and well, obviously it has the whole engine in it. So what is the diff there, or do you know?

no, the big block has to do with the size of the heads. The small block heads are alot smaller. As for the short and long block question. There is no exact answer, I have talked to many people and they all have their own idea on what it is. I ten to think that the short block is just that, the block and enternals, the long block is a short block with a head. When shopping around for engines make sure to ask what comes with it!! DO NOT ask "Is it a short/long block?".

small block and big block have to do more with the actual size of the block than the heads. Obviously the block will dictate the heads, but it is literally the size of the block. the chevy 350 is a small block
